My hourly rate of €80 reflects not only the time spent photographing, but also the expertise, preparation, and investment that go into creating high-quality, professional images.
Behind every shoot is a significant amount of work that often goes unseen. Time is spent planning, communicating, travelling, preparing equipment, selecting images, editing, retouching, colour correction, file management, backups, and delivering finished work. In many cases, the time spent processing and refining images afterwards can exceed the time spent shooting.
Photography also requires substantial ongoing investment. My equipment alone represents €10k's in professional camera bodies, lenses, lighting, computers, and specialist gear, all of which are maintained, insured, and regularly updated to ensure the highest standards of quality and reliability.
You are also paying for experience, training, and professional expertise. Years of practical work, technical knowledge, creative understanding, professional qualifications, and problem-solving ability all contribute to producing images that meet a professional standard consistently, often in conditions that cannot be repeated.
Some projects, particularly weddings and once-in-a-lifetime events, are priced differently and may work out at a higher effective hourly rate. This is because these occasions are entirely unrepeatable. There are no second chances if a moment is missed, no opportunity to recreate genuine emotions, key events, or once-only memories. These assignments require additional preparation, contingency planning, backup equipment, heightened responsibility, and extensive post-production to ensure every important moment is captured and preserved properly.
